The history of the medieval castle
The medieval castle was built by the Fiordivoglia or Fodivoli family between the 13th and 14th centuries. Originally, the place was called Civitella della Montagna, then Civitella di Manno and, finally, to its current name. Owned for many years by the counts of Marsciano who granted it the statutes of 1529, it definitively entered the Orvieto orbit. After being ruled by the Saracinellis until the 18th century, it returned to Marsciano in the period of Napoleonic domination. Following the new territorial division of the Papal State carried out by Pope Pius VII, it became a hamlet of San Venanzo.
