Among the many events that take place in Marsciano throughout the year, the Feast of San Giovanni is one of the most popular.

On the Feast of the Patron in mid-June, the picturesque old town of Marsciano becomes the site for concerts, performances, and exhibitions that are designed to amaze and entertain all all spectators. Since 2011, a new event has been associated with Marsciano's traditional patronal feast - the Palio of the Barrels di Marsciano. It is the most important ludic-folkloristic event in the town, organized by the Pro-loco of Marsciano, various districts and the Municipality. For this occasion, the historic center is completely decorated in the colors of the various districts, further adding to the medieval feel of the city.

Palio of the barrels - an experience to see, hear and taste

During the days of the feast, the city offers a variety of musical events, shows, fairs, outdoor screenings, and excellent cuisine rich in traditional local dishes accompanied by an excellent local wines. Palio delle Botti, a race to push barrels through the ancient streets of the city, is a must-see event. In the spectacular and full of adrenaline rush participate 8 districts of Marsciano, namely Ammeto, Centro, Cerro, Ponte, Schiavo, S. Francesco, Tripoli, Via Larga. By pushing the barrels through the streets with speed and dexterity, the pushers try to reach the finish line by winning the victory.

An amazing historical parade winds through the streets of the historic center. The districts parade, sing, celebrate and wave colored flags. The city is filled with knights, nobles, and noblewomen, all dressed in their amazing costumes, accompanied by the harmonious rhythm of the drums.

Moreover, Marsciano, as a member of the Città del Vino Association, has been taking part in the competitions of the National Barrels Palio that are held every year in some of the most beautiful wine cities of Italy.
