Cycling track Spoleto - Assisi
Located in the heart of Umbria, where St. Francis "preached to the birds", Cannara (Pg) takes itsname from the word "canna" (reed), as it stands on a marshy area full of reeds, along the left bank of the Topino river, in the center of the Umbrian Valley, right in front of Assisi and Spello.
From Cannara it is possible to reach by bicycle the main surrounding medieval villages and the historic cities of Umbria such as Assisi, Spoleto, Foligno, thanks to the Spoleto - Assisi cycle path, the main"soft mobility" infrastructure in the Umbrian Valley that connects these two large Umbrian cities in 52 kilometers of flat route. This is an itinerary of great tourist attractions, built, mostly, on the embankments of the Marroggia, Teverone and Timia rivers up to Cannara and then crosses the Umbrian Valley right in front of Assisi.
Starting from Cannara, you can reach both Spoleto and Assisi. To reach Spoleto from Cannara, take the cycle path crossing the countryside up to where the Timia flows into the Topino river, get to the medieval village of Bevagna, where the Timia rises from the confluence of the Teverone and the Clitunno rivers. Passing by the vineyards of Sagrantino, reach Torre di Montefalco, a small fraction of the municipality of Montefalco. From here, follow the course of the Marroggia river and cross Foligno suburban countryside then skirt the small medieval villages of Trevi, which rises on a hill, and Campello sul Clitunno, pass the Clitunno river springs and continue towards Spoleto.
