Among the families of contile origin that settled in the area to the right of the river Tiber in feudal times, the Montemarte family was undoubtedly one of the dominant ones, garrisoning the areas east of Orvieto towards Todi with the castles of Montemarte and Corbara. In the cadastre of the contado of 1292, it is recorded as Castrum, Corbara, in the parish of Santa Maria de Stiolo, much of which coincides with the present territory of the Castello di Corbara at the confluence of the river Paglia with the Tiber. The habitual residence of the Counts of Corbara was in the Castle itself, although it was listed at least until the 17th century among those of the city nobility: in fact, direct management of the vast landed estates, which were gradually being transformed into modern farms, was necessary.

At the end of the 19th century, the Corbara Estate became the property of the Banca Romana, which in 1889/90 unearthed the Roman port of Pagliano, located at the confluence of the Tiber and Paglia rivers, in opus reticolatum. This archaeological site was of great historical importance in the framework of trade and economic relations between Rome and the immediate hinterland and, thanks to constant research, protection and restoration work on the structures, it is now accessible and can be visited.The current appearance of the Azienda Agricola Castello di Corbara is a faithful reflection of the new project aimed at enhancing wine production, firmly and passionately desired by the Patrizi family, which acquired the property in 1997. This objective was mainly inspired by the inherent need to recover values such as respect for the land, the authenticity of which is always expressed in all the wines produced.
