Enjoy a guided visit of Gubbio. The discovery of the Eugubine Tables on Mount Calvo in 1444, a set of bronze tablets that together constitute the largest surviving text in ancient Umbria are witnessing the very ancient origin of this town. Gubbio was founded by the Umbrian civilisation around the 2nd century B.C.. Its very central position along the antique ways that connected the Tyrrhenian Sea with the Adriatic sea made of this city a rich city.Gubbio is home to the Corsa dei Ceri, a run held every year on the 15th of May. The run has strong devotional, civic, and religious overtones and it is one of the best-known folklore manifestations in Italy. After having visited the town, enjoy a light lunch with typical products in a local farm.Afterwards, we will move to Montone. The Medieval city of Montone sits in the northern part of Umbria in the area known as the Upper Tiber Valley atop of one of the hills so beloved by the painter Piero della Francesca. It is today as beautiful as it was in the Renaissance time with glorious mixed oak woods and olive trees dominating the Tiber and Carpina rivers that merge below.Strolling along narrow and winding roads the town suddenly appears, powerful, harmonious and austere. Houses, churches and convents are enclosed within its impenetrable walls which protected the town once and even now from the environmental danger of the building industry. After entering one of the antique gates you will soon lose yourself in the twisted shaded alleys adorned with geraniums where there is no traffic noise, just an amazing silence and indescribable views from every outlook.THE UMBRIA FILM FESTIVAL has been hosted in Montone since 1997 following a fruitful cooperation between Associazione Umbria Film Festival, Comune of Montone (PG) and London's Riverside Studios creating an ideal cultural and physical environment for the flourishing of original ideas inspired by the cinema. The Festival takes place every year during the second week of July.
