From the steep Valrachena 1400 m a.s.l. we reach the Mainardi hut 1100 m a.s.l. located in the wide karst plain of Pian delle Macinare with the swallow hole of the rainwater plunging into the rocky depths. Stop for lunch at the refuge and return to the large beech forests of the Fida and Madre dei Faggi di Val di Ranco 1182 m a.s.l.

Hiking clothing suitable for the seasonal mountain weather conditions is recommended (hiking boots if possible high, rucksack, long-sleeved shirt, rainwear, spare clothing, cap and gloves, water and food as required

• (1) 9:00 a.m. gathering of participants at Pian di Monte (1197 m a.s.l.) South hang glider take-off at the guide's hut in the Monte Cucco cave; 9:30 a.m. departure of excursion
• (2)10:30 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. visit to the cave;
• (3) 1:30 p.m. arrival at Pian delle Macinare for a quick meal with typical products; 3 p.m. departure for the excursion;
• (4) 4:30 p.m. arrival at Val di Ranco.
