The Friar Seeker is a character who existed until the 1960s. He was the friar assigned to alms both for the needs of the convent and for the poor. On foot, with his bag on his shoulders, or on that of a donkey or a mule, he walked the streets of the countryside going from house to house to collect what was offered to him. "Pace e Bene" or "Pax et Bonum" was the phrase with which the Friar Seeker greeted people when he asked for alms. He was also called torzone as lay brothers were called, who were engaged in manual labour and whose role was simply to ask for alms.
