Accomodation - I borghi delle due valli
Situated in the municipality of Castiglione del Lago, La Pievaccia is located on the border between Umbria and Tuscany, with a particularly favourable position for tranquillity, views and proximity to tourist destinations in the area: Castiglione del Lago and the Lake Trasimeno Park are only 11 km away, Montepulciano and Chiusi 15 km, Città della Pieve 22 km, and many other destinations within 30 km!
Overlooking the Lake of Montepulciano in an oasis of tranquillity poised between the Green Heart of Italy and the Valdichiana, the structure has the typical characteristics of the area's ancient farmhouses, with large rooms paved with terracotta tiles and thick walls with re-used Etruscan stones. The complex consists of flats of various sizes, a large garden with pine forest and a swimming pool, all far from the chaos of the city, in a place where the silence and serenity of the countryside reign.
It was in fact one of the churches (or pievi, from the term dating back to the early Middle Ages) in the territory of the diocese of Chiusi, and the original structure probably comprised only a portion of the current farmhouse, or perhaps it simply shared with it a fraction of the oldest part of the house, identified by 50 cm thick walls of bricks and stones. The history of Pievaccia ran for a long time intertwined with that of ecclesiastical orders such as the Camaldolesi and Olivetani, whose coat-of-arms is still present at the structure, albeit with the anomalous presence of 6 instead of 3 hills, until it was sold along with land and other assets belonging to the clergy.Over the course of time, extensive and painstaking extension and renovation works have brought the ancient parish church to its current size and structure.A final curiosity: like many large farmhouses of the time, during the World Wars, Pievaccia became a refuge for the masses fleeing from the neighbouring villages, who were housed in the rooms and stables by the owners of the house.
